Interactions of silver-nanoparticles with cellular membrane proteins – influence of the stabilizers to form a protein corona and particle-toxicity

Project

Food and consumer protection

This project contributes to the research aim 'Food and consumer protection'. Which funding institutions are active for this aim? What are the sub-aims? Take a look:
Food and consumer protection

Project code: BfR-LMS-08-1322-554
Contract period: 01.03.2013 - 31.12.2013
Purpose of research: Applied research

Oral ingested silver-nanoparticles are resorbed via the gastrointestinal tract. When nanoparticles are exposed to the biological fluids of organs like the intestine, liver and kidney intracellular proteins can bind to the surface of the nanoparticles. According to the size, the chemical and material properties of the particle core and the used stabilizer the interaction of proteins can be different and can have different toxic effects. Therefore, the main focus of the research project is the interface between nanoparticle and the formation of a protein corona. Therefore, a celllysis- and an enrichment protocol of native proteins from the used cell cultures have to be established. Specific interaction-partners that caused toxic relevant effects should be enriched. In a following project the enriched proteins should be identified and characterized with mass spectrometry.
