This Model and Demonstration (M&D) project investigates scientific, organizational, legal and political issues related to the establishment of a network of genetic reserves for wild celeriac species (Apium and Helosciadium) and provide answers. Problem solutions and products elaborated by the project can be transferred to other groups of crop wild relatives. The project will create an important base for an effective and efficient in situ conservation of plant genetic resources. It will contribute to the implementation of actions detailed in chapter 4.2.2.3 'Identification, establishment and expansion of genetic reserves' of the National Expert Program for Conservation and Sustainable Use of Plant Genetic Resources.
