Purpose of research: Applied research

The DIN/ISO method 10273 for the detection of pathogenic Yersinia enterocolitica in food and animal feed is currently under revision, because it does not provide satisfactory data. Major steps of this method are the use of selective media and KOH treatment of samples to reduce background flora and to detect Yersinia. The results of this study indicate that the used media and KOH treatment may cause a significant reduction of Yersinae. Therefore, further studies have to be carried out to optimize the method.
