Call feeding for sows. A feeding system for animal welfare in group housing

Purpose of research: Experimental development
Aim of the DIP-project was to create a new consortium for the prearrangement of the commercial launch of the call feeding for gestating sows. This consortium should consist of the Leibniz-institute for farm animal biology (FBN), additional research institutes and companies. In this range, a demonstration unit of call feeding supporting up to 8 sows was installed at the experimental facility of the FBN for interested parties. At the same time, the popularity of call feeding was increased by articles in TV, print and web media. A new consortium incorporating the automation service provider pironex GmbH could be created as a result of these efforts. In addition, the founding of an operational group consisting of the FBN, the LMS – centre of Agricultural Advice and the Pastiner agricultural corporation will be set into operation. This group will be concerned with the practical testing and the examination of the cost effectiveness of the add-on device for call feeding.
