Institution
Section overview
Description
General tasks of the Research Institute for Forest Ecology and Forestry which is a government foundation of the year 1984, are the expansion of knowledge for optimal protection and sunstainable fulfillment of all forest functions. Protection of the environment (protection of soil, water, climate, fauna and flora), Economic use (timber production, labour, income for forest owners), Improvement of quality of life (nature, leasure and sports)
Activities
- Research
Subordinate institutions
Coordinated projects
- AQUAREL - Origin and adaptation of oaks on relict sites
- Balancing of CO2 storage while restoration of moor forests taking the example of the National Park Hunsrück-Hochwald - MoorWaldBilanz
- Detection of the genetic structure of red beech (Fagus sylvatica) as a basis for genetic monitoring of important forest tree species in Germany
- Establishing a standard method for studying the genetic and adaptive differentiation of specific origins of the example of the shrub species, and Prunus spinosa, Corylus avellana
Coordinated projects of subordinate institutions
- Adaptation and host-parasite interactions of oak trees in the climate change - APEK
- Altered productivity and carbon sequestration of German forests in the face of climate change: (i) model development with data sets of soil inventory (BZE) and European Level I monitoring plots and (ii) model applications on an expanded dataset of the National Forest Inventory (BWI) - WP-KS-KW. Subproject 11
Involved in research projects
- Alterations in the lifetime of forest stands: Economic consequences of climate change for forestry enterprises. Management options for optimizing risk-return ratios under a changing climate. (Module 1)
- Alterations in the lifetime of forest stands: Economic consequences of climate change for forestry enterprises. Management options for optimizing risk-return ratios under a changing climate. (Module 4 and 6)
- Altered survival period of wood ressources: Economical effects of climate change on forestries - subproject 2
- Carbon and nutrient storage of forest sites within the forest monitoring (BZE) of Rhineland-Palatinate
- Carbon and nutrient storage of forest sites within the forest monitoring networks of Rhineland-Palatinate (BZE, Level II)
- Changes in tree pathogenic due to climate change and its implications for silvicultural approaches
- Data collection on the use of of plant protection agents in the forest; Participation in the collection and evaluation of anthropogenous immissions regarding forest damage
- Growth potential of oak in managed and unmanaged forest dependent on stock structure and site conditions
- New assessment of the forest protection situation in respect to climate change
- Pilot study on the genetic monitoring of beech (Fagus syslvatica) and wild cherry (Prunus avium)
- Research on distribution, genetics and suitability of cultivation of Spanish Chestnut taking into account aspects of silviculture and forest protection.
- Silvicultura instead Viticultura, silviculture instead of viticulture
