Regarding this, a catalogue to verify the labelling of fishery products has been generated. Gain of the project was to make data such as

available. Main focus was set on fish species with a high economic relevance.
The conceptual formulation was to sample all relevant analytic data, to choose an appropriate database programme and to enter all available data into the database.
Method
The compilation of the database as well as the selection of adequate software and the programming procedure was accomplished by the company Planomedia. The database is based on different Open Source components. The data processor which is used by an operator merely needs a web browser for working with the database.
The refurbishment of DNA sequences of marine organisms such as fishes, crustaceans and molluscs was undertaken by the company Impetus GmbH & Co. Bioscience KG.
Results
The database is clearly structured and easy to handle. The user has the facility to search after a particular fish, mollusc or crustacean by entering the german or scientific name. Another way is to go through a list of all available species if the correct name is not known. At present, the database contains analytic data from 198 fishes, 14 crustaceans and 19 molluscs. The complete data set including IEF, SSCP, RFLP, DNA and alignment is merely only available for a few species. The requirement for future users will be to complete the lacking data sets as well as to enter new analytic data of marine organisms if possible.
Available to most of the species is a short summary including distribution and habitat requirements. The molecular biological methods are described as well on therefore provided pages.
Conclusion
The aim, to design a database for analytic information of marine organisms with high economic relevance and to enter such information into the database has been reached in therefore mentioned period of time.
For further steps, the responsibility for this product will be referred to staff members of the Bundesforschungsanstalt für Ernährung und Lebensmittel (BFEL), FB Fischqualität.
All data can be used as comparison or standards for definite identification and determination of species regarding to their trade name.
