Experts from Alsace, Switzerland and Southwest Germany work in the EU project InterregIV 'Bacchus' in a cooperative research network in order to develop new knowledge for sustainable viticulture of the future. The aim of the alliance is to examine with various approaches the interactions between pathogens and vine stock to develop new defense strategies. The research projects are concerned mainly with the downy mildew, Plasmopara viticola (the causative agent of grapevine downy mildew). Studies on nepoviruses as GFLV and wood-destroying fungi are included.
