Project code: 0315527B
Contract period: 01.09.2009 - 31.12.2013
Budget: 1,888,882 Euro
Purpose of research: Basic research

High-throughput genotyping is a key technology of modern breeding research. A platform for high-throughput genotyping is a prerequisite for population genomic analyses in the context of genomic selection and the identification of trait relevant genes in cattle, chicken and maize as planned in Synbreed. SNPs resulting from the next generation sequencing technology platform (T1) will be used for developing new genotyping arrays. Data handling will be facilitated by methods and tools developed in the bioinformatics technology platform (T3). High-throughput genotyping data will be generated and transferred to database systems, processed and delivered to the receiving partners in the Synbreed project in an analysis-ready state. The establishment of a high-throughput genotyping platform at the Weihenstephan campus of life and food sciences will provide students with the opportunity of becoming familiar with state of the art approaches and methods of modern breeding research.
