Project code: EIP-Agri-2022-THÜ-PPGBLMI
Contract period: 01.01.2022 - 31.12.2024
Budget: 112,158 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: plant production and horticulture, food industry, product/service, marketing/supply chain

The requested project is a preliminary project for the development of novel organic plant-based drinks (milk substitute drinks) from regional, organically grown raw materials to strengthen, among other things oat cultivation and to establish sustainable, short value chains in Thuringia. As a result, the concrete implementation in practice is to be planned. The innovative approach of the plant drinks consists in the development and testing of new mixed drink formulations from different plant species (e.g. oat-hemp, pea-hemp etc.). The processing of the by-products in the food or feed sector will also be taken up. In order to be able to offer a safe, steady and sustainable product in the future, the processing and filling of the plant-based milk substitutes in a sustainable glass bottle deposit system or alternatives made from recycled materials ('Green Bottle') is targeted. The innovation area relates to Thuringia / Central Germany, where no regionally, sustainably and organically produced plant-based drinks are yet available.
